Craniosacral FAQ’s

May 1, 2023

Craniosacral Therapy is a newer addition to Thrive’s complement of modalities.

Learn more about what it is and what to expect from treatment with Jennifer Zinn, RMT:

1. How would you describe Craniosacral therapy?

Craniosacral therapy is a light touch approach that releases fascial and connective tissue tensions throughout the body.

2. How does Craniosacral therapy differ from Massage Therapy?

Craniosacral therapy focuses on easing restriction in the body fascia and connective tissue that surrounds the brain and spinal cord.  Treatment is guided by the intuitive “wisdom” of the client’s body.  This differs from traditional massage therapy where the primary focus is the muscular system.  Traditional massage works into the depth of the muscles, easing into tension and reducing restriction.  CST works with a light touch, following and/or holding tension to facilitate ease in the tissue.

3. What kinds of issues can Craniosacral therapy address?

Craniosacral therapy has been shown to help with headaches, chronic neck and back pain, post concussion symptoms, fibromyalgia, stress and tension related disorders, anxiety, and many other chronic conditions.

4. What ages are clients of Craniosacral?

Because craniosacral therapy is a light touch treatment it is suitable for clients of any age.

5. How would I dress for a Craniosacral treatment?

During a Craniosacral therapy session a client stays fully clothed and is offered a blanket for further comfort.

6. How might I feel during/after a Craniosacral treatment?

A Craniosacral therapy session feels very different from a traditional massage.  During a session a client will likely feel an ease of tissue tension, a wavelike or unwinding feeling, and a wonderful feeling of relaxation.

7. How many sessions would someone normally commit to?

A Craniosacral therapy session typically lasts 45 minutes and is recommended anywhere from a couple times a week, to once a month depending on how much tension is carried in the tissue, the ease of tissue release, and the type of condition being treated.

8. Can Craniosacral therapy help with mental health/stress issues?

Yes.  Because of the effect Craniosacral therapy has on the Central Nervous System, a CST session can help calm and quiet the fight-or-flight state and optimize health and wellness.
