Manual Osteopathy in Burlington
Manual Osteopathy is a hands-on form of manual therapy that looks at how different areas and systems of the body work together. Rather than focusing only on where you’re experiencing discomfort, an Osteopathic Manual Practitioner considers how movement, mobility and function throughout the body may be contributing to the way you feel.
Treatment is individualized and may include a combination of soft tissue techniques, gentle joint mobilization, stretching and other hands-on approaches aimed at improving mobility and overall function.
At Thrive, osteopathic care is provided by Osteopathic Manual Practitioners Barbara Lukac, M.OMSc. and Emily Hobbes, M.OMSc.

Why Do People Seek Osteopathic Care?
People seek osteopathic care for a variety of musculoskeletal concerns, including:
Back & Neck Discomfort
Stiffness, tension, restricted movement and persistent or recurring discomfort.
Muscle & Joint Concerns
Muscle tension, joint stiffness, mobility restrictions and discomfort associated with repetitive movement or everyday activities.
Headaches & Jaw Tension
Headaches associated with muscular tension and concerns involving the jaw, neck and surrounding structures.
Injury, Activity & Movement
Sports-related concerns, repetitive strain, changes in mobility and support during recovery from injury.
Because different areas of the body can influence one another, your practitioner will assess beyond the area where you’re experiencing symptoms to better understand factors that may be contributing to your concern.
What Can I Expect from a Manual Osteopathic Treatment?
Your first appointment begins with a discussion of your health history, current concerns and treatment goals, followed by an assessment of how your body moves and functions.
Manual Osteopathic treatment is hands-on and tailored to what your practitioner finds during your assessment. Treatment may include soft tissue techniques, gentle joint mobilization, stretching and other manual techniques to address areas of tension or restricted mobility.
Because osteopathy takes a whole-body approach, your practitioner may assess and treat areas beyond the location of your symptoms. For example, discomfort in one area may be influenced by movement or restriction elsewhere in the body.
Your practitioner will explain their findings and treatment approach and work with you to develop a plan based on your individual needs and goals.
Jaw Pain or TMD Concerns?
Thrive also offers specialized osteopathic assessment and treatment for Temporomandibular Disorders (TMD) with Barbara Lukac, M.OMSc.
Barbara has completed additional training in TMD assessment and treatment, including intraoral techniques, allowing her to assess and treat the jaw and surrounding structures as part of a comprehensive osteopathic approach.
TMD treatment may be appropriate for people experiencing concerns such as jaw pain or tension, clicking or restricted jaw movement, discomfort with chewing, or tension involving the jaw, face and surrounding areas.
