Sports Specific Massage Therapy in Burlington

Sports Massage Therapy in Burlington

Supporting Athletic Recovery, Movement & Performance

Whether you’re training for an upcoming race, participating in recreational sports or competing at a higher level, the physical demands of athletic activity can place considerable stress on your body.

Sports-Specific Massage Therapy at Thrive Massage Therapy & Wellness offers an individualized, proactive approach to managing those demands. Treatment focuses on supporting recovery, addressing injuries and recurring muscular concerns, and helping athletes maintain comfortable movement throughout their training.

What Is Sports-Specific Massage Therapy?

Sports-Specific Massage Therapy combines therapeutic massage with an Athletic Therapy-informed approach to movement, injury management, rehabilitation and recovery.

While all Registered Massage Therapists at Thrive can provide treatment for athletes, sports-related injuries and muscular concerns, this specialized service is designed for individuals seeking a more focused approach to their athletic needs.

Offered by Caleb Lavoie, CAT(c), RMT, treatment draws on his combined training as a Certified Athletic Therapist and Registered Massage Therapist. His approach considers not only the area of discomfort, but also movement patterns, biomechanics, training demands, previous injuries and factors that may contribute to recurring concerns.

Whether managing an injury, returning to sport or taking a proactive approach to training and recovery, treatment is tailored to support each athlete’s individual goals.

An Integrated Approach to Athletic Care

Caleb’s approach combines hands-on massage therapy with assessment and treatment strategies informed by his Athletic Therapy background.

Rather than following a fixed treatment routine, each appointment is adapted to the individual’s sport, activity level, physical concerns and treatment goals.

Depending on assessment findings, treatment may incorporate:

  • Therapeutic Massage: Targeted soft-tissue techniques to address muscular tension, discomfort and restrictions in movement.

  • Neurofunctional Acupuncture: Acupuncture techniques directed toward neuromuscular concerns, incorporated when clinically appropriate.

  • Fascial Cupping: A soft-tissue technique that may be used to address areas of muscular and fascial restriction.

  • Movement & Mobility Assessment: Evaluating relevant movement patterns, mobility and functional concerns.

  • Sport-Specific Rehabilitation Strategies: Individualized exercises and movement recommendations informed by Caleb’s Athletic Therapy training.

  • Training & Recovery Education: Practical guidance to help clients better understand physical demands, recovery considerations and ongoing management of recurring concerns.

Not every technique is appropriate or necessary for every client. Treatment recommendations are based on individual assessment findings, clinical considerations and informed consent.

Who May Benefit from Sports-Specific Massage Therapy?

This treatment may be beneficial for:

  • Runners, cyclists and triathletes

  • Recreational and competitive team-sport athletes

  • Individuals managing repetitive strain or training-related muscular tension

  • Athletes recovering from injury or returning to activity

  • Those experiencing recurring discomfort associated with their sport

  • Active individuals seeking a proactive approach to recovery and muscular care

You don’t need to be a competitive athlete to benefit. Whether you’re preparing for your first 5K, training for a marathon, playing weekend hockey or maintaining an active lifestyle, treatment is tailored to your individual needs.

What to Expect During Your Appointment

Your appointment begins with a discussion of your activity level, training demands, injury history, current concerns and treatment goals.

Caleb may incorporate movement and mobility assessment to better understand how your body is responding to the demands of your sport or activity.

Based on this assessment, treatment may include hands-on massage therapy, Neurofunctional Acupuncture where appropriate, and movement-based recommendations to support your goals.

Sessions are individualized and may emphasize different approaches depending on whether you’re managing an injury, working through recurring discomfort or incorporating treatment into your ongoing training and recovery routine.
